ALBUQUERQUE'S "HIGH DESERT CLASSIC" THIS WEEKEND


    Round four of USAC's 2k11 "Generation Next Tour" is scheduled this weekend at Sandia Motorsports Park in Albuquerque, N.M. USAC's Mopar .25 Midget stars will be in action in over 15  classes, with awards and trophies presented following Sunday's A-Mains.

    This weekend's race will also count toward Round #2 of the USAC Machine Tools Supply Southwest Series Championship. Round #1 was held in Phoenix in March and the third and final round will take place May 6-8 at the Orange Show Quarter Midget Club in San Bernardino, Calif.

    Sign-ins and safety checks will occur on Friday and practice, heat races and lower mains are slated for Saturday, racing getting under way at 9 a.m. on Saturday and 8 a.m. on Sunday.

    The 2k11 "Generation Next Tour" has already visited Phoenix, AZ, Nashville, TN and Salisbury, NC saw record car counts at all 3 events.  The 12-race slate will continue with events in California, Ohio, Maryland, Wisconsin, Indiana and Michigan.

    Weather permitting on Friday night, the Roadrunner Quarter Midget Association will offer tethered hot air balloon rides from 6-8 pm in the track infield. The cost for kids is $5 and adults $8. In addition, A Main winners will receive USAC Medallions, balloon trophies as well as checkered flags signed by the drivers in their race. A Bar-B-Que dinner will also be hosted by the Roardunner club on Saturday night and donations toward that cost are welcomed.

Drivers and their families are also invited to tour the Unser Racing Museum while visiting Albuquerque. Admission is FREE for children 16 and under. Adults $10.
