“ANDRETTI WINTER CLASSIC” - February 5, 2011
Andretti! The mere mention of the name brings thoughts of racing to anyone
within earshot. On February 5, 2011, USAC’s Mopar .25 racers will compete in the
inaugural “Andretti Winter Classic” at the 100,000-square-foot Andretti Indoor
Karting & Games facility in Roswell, Ga.
On a professionally-designed oval course the first 100 entrants will be
eligible to compete in a special off-season, non-points event expected to become
an annual destination for USAC’s .25 racers and their families.
Open to Briggs and Honda .25 classes, the event will not only offer a unique
racing atmosphere but also afford numerous other opportunities for fun and
excitement for the participants. The facility contains two (2) indoor go-kart
tracks, bowling lanes, 120 of the latest video and simulation games, a high
ropes course and rock-climbing wall, a restaurant, sky bar and billiards room,
comedy club and a restaurant.
Located at 11000 Alpharetta Highway in Roswell, its proximity to Atlanta also
provides access to numerous other winter-time attractions. The Metro Atlanta
Quarter Midget Association is serving as the host club for this event and will
have displays and literature available for attendees.
Only the first 100 entrants for this special event will be accepted. Entry
forms will be posted on the USAC website beginning Friday, November 12.
The Andretti family has a long and storied history with USAC. Mario, of course,
won USAC’s National Championship in 1965, 1966 and 1969 plus the 1969
Indianapolis 500. He added the 1974 Dirt Car title and son Jeff won USAC’s 1983
Pro-Ford championship. Nephew John won the 1983 USAC Speedrome Midget crown,
while Mario’s brother Aldo and son Michael were also USAC competitors. Grandson
Marco has now made his mark in the sport of IndyCar racing.
